Growth Pains

As my little business grows I have been having growth pains. I always have tried to keep my prices down and reasonable. I get most pieces fairly cheap or free. In the last week I have had two people tell me I’m to cheap! Other dealers of course. I did have a talk with a couple of people  to weigh in on this whole matter. They agreed I was under valuing my work, time and effort I put into my pieces. So I took a long hard look at my business and have decided maybe they are right. I mean I do this to make money also though because I love it. I’m trying to find that middle ground I don’t want to be the cheapest one out there but I do need to raise my prices some. I don’t think some people realize the work that really does go into some pieces. I don’t just slap paint on a piece. There is a lot of prep work.repairing and lot of hours go into some pf these pieces. I will just have to see how it goes hopefully it won’t scare people away. I ‘m not going to price ridiculous so don’t worry!

This last couple weeks I have been working on several pieces. I did a table and chair set that I love the way it came out!

I used ASCP in Chateau Grey and Graphite over the top. Then covered the seat in a very french material.

I did a really cute vanity which I did in a new color I picked from Behr paint.

van2 van6 It is a really striking piece! Of course this piece is a beauty all on its own!

I did an old window sign. It says I will always love you.

kwindaIt sold the same day I took it up to sell! The lady who bought it sent me this pic to show me where she put it! Cute!

I’m currently working on a bedroom set that I must have done by Feb 1. It will be used in a display at my antique mall where I sell.

dresserm dressernThis was once my dresser set many moons ago. It was my first major paint job on furniture. Well many years later my ex gave it to my son and DIL and she attempted to paint it black. Luckily she stopped at one piece! They then gave it to me and said make it better! LOL

So after a lot of sanding on that headboard! I’m making progress.

  1. I love your stuff and every time my husband and look at it together we agree it’s way too cheap! We are currently living with family while waiting for our house to sell so we can buy one here. We sold all our old furniture except a very few special pieces (4 pieces, actually) so I’m so looking forward to decorating our new house and your stuff is just my style!

  2. Hi Traci! I always love to see what you are making. I often look with my cell phone so I don’t comment as much as I should (it’s a pain on the phone!). I’m not sure how much you are charging for your items but I can tell you this. My favorite go to lady here in Colorado is always priced lower then many of my other favorites. With that being said, because I feel she is so reasonable, I spend way more with her then I do the others. An example, she will redo a kitchen table chair, paint and recover the seat area and always charges around $55. I have bought at least 6 of those chairs over the last couple of years. Another favorite charges $180 for a similar chair, I have not purchased even one from her. I spend so much more at the “cheaper” girls shop because I feel she is being more the fair and I like to give her my business. It sounds like you need to raise your prices some but from my experience keeping them reasonable will get you more return customers. TMI??? I wish I could come shop at your shop, I would be buying for sure!!

    Have a great weekend.

    • Thanks Shanon! I needed to hear that! I agree I have started out always reasonable so I need to stay that way! I will just have to slowly increase my prices as I see fit. I would much rather have repeat customers thn a one time big sale! Thanks for stopping by! Have a lovely Sunday! Traci
