It could be from the paint fumes that I find my self talking to furniture. I always like to get a feel for the piece I’m working on was it loved or was it abused, what kind of stories it could tell. When I get a piece of furniture I usually can tell right away what I want to do to it. Not always though! I will think I know what I want to do and as I start cleaning and priming something will happen it is almost as if the piece takes on a life of its own. Telling me I should be painted this color and I want to be glazed. I know you are probably thinking she really has lost it! I can’t explain it I just know that sometimes I have plans for a piece then suddenly it is going a totally unexpected way. That is the case of this hutch I got.
I may have paid a bit more for it then I usually would but I had to have it! I loved every detail of this french provincial beauty!
So I drug hubby out after working a 12 hour day to drive 45 minutes to pick it up. What a guy never complained as we loaded and unloaded it late in the night! The next day I awoke all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed I had it all planned out I was going to paint it first with black than go over it with a creamy color than shabby it to show some of the black then glaze the whole thing. As I started doing this it didn’t feel right. I changed the direction I painted it a soft green by ASCP called Versailles. Then I mixed a cream color with some glaze and lightly white washed it then glazed it with tea stain over it.It is a beautiful piece now not bold just soft and elegant.
Some of the soft green showing through sigh….
I even left the original hardware!

Looks like you were listening, because this piece is just beautiful! Oh, and believe me, the older you get, the more you will talk to inanimate objects and yourself!
Its gorgeous. Yes, furniture does talk to me. This piece is saying “take me to Katherine’s” giggle. Thank you for sharing your lovely blog at the hop. I hop your weekend is as sweet as you are xo
Funny how furniture will do that, I sure this one is thanking you for such a beautiful transformation.
